Quote: Why the TGI Maldives team is fond of this dive site?

“Maalhos Thila is the best dive to see soft coral.”
“It is one of the best dive sites for underwater photographers and cave lovers.”

Description of the dive site:

The top part of the thila is beautiful and well preserved with colourful soft corals providing home for a variety of reef fish.

The south side of the thila is a succession of overhangs covered by blue, white, pink and yellow soft coral. If the current is medium to strong, the corals swell to allow the polyps to capture as much passing plankton as possible. The abundance of corals also creates an enchanting garden covering every single part of the thila.

Inside the overhangs, divers are protected from the current and can stop to observe the corals from close, enlightening them with their torches allow nudibranchs, flat worms, and shrimps living in the reef to be discovered.

Further west, the last overhang of the thila is covered by a long series of gorgonian fans, surrounded by soft corals. A truly incredible sight.

To top things off, blue stripe snippers, oriental sweetlips and soldier can also be found.
