The fun loving dolphins of the Maldives

There is one mammal that will always move you, no matter your age and interest in the underwater world: dolphins!

When coming to the Maldives, expect to encounter this friendly and playful creature. The most common species encountered are spinner dolphins. As their name suggest, spinner dolphins love to spin, play and jump. They can be found in big pods – of up to a couple of hundred at a time – and can be easily seen at all our TGI Maldives dive centers, as they enter the atolls in the morning and leave in the evening. Join one of our sunset cruises, dive or snorkelling trips, or any speedboat excursion to maximize your chance to seeing the incredible spinner dolphins.

Bottlenose dolphins can also be seen during our excursions. From close, they are easily recognisable by the blowhole on the top of their head. Compared to spinner dolphins, they are bigger, live in smaller pods – up to fifteen – and they are more rare. This species sometimes shows curiosity towards people in or near the water, and it has been reported that they would help injured divers in the same way as they would help members of their own species.

If you are interested in joining one of our excursions to get a chance to see dolphins playing and jumping, come and see us at TGI Maldives dive centers!
