Fledermaus Reef

Fledermaus Reef at Helengeli Island

Boat trip: 45 min
Reef type: reef wall inside the atoll
Level: beginner to advanced
Depth: 2-25m

This reef, on the north part of the atoll, has a beautiful wall ending on a sandy bottom at a depth of 25 to 30 meters. Scan the cracks in the reef, looking for small nudibranches, flatworms and pipefish without forgetting boxer and cleaning shrimps. The wall then changes into a slope full of acropora, staghorn and “mushroom” corals surrounded by all kind of reef fishes. Glass fishes will fill up the coral blocks all around, beware of the mask morays hidden between them! Turtles and napoleon wrasse come to visit the reef too. In the blue some tuna and jackfish may pass by.
