Diving - the universal language!

It doesn’t matter where you are from – scuba diving appears to communicate to people from all over the world. And in a world where words don’t matter, all language barriers that might exist on land, disappear underwater!

The unfortunate shark!

Bathala Thila is a great dive site for exploring and seeing a mixture of both the small and larger creatures living on a reef. From beautiful anemones to white tip reef sharks and nurse sharks.

This week at Halaveli, Ting, Rosine and Josef saw one of the sharks being bombarded by remora fish! Remoras, or sucker fish as they more commonly known, like to attach themselves to larger fish and hitch a ride.

Time out for a birthday dive!

This week saw the TGI team at Halaveli take the resort’s sommelier Cedric Jacob for a birthday dive in the lagoon of the island!

There have been a number of successful courses taking place this week, and we would like to congratulate Helmar who just completed his PADI Open Water Diver Course with Ting.

Tanina and Pascal have also passed their Advanced Open Water and Nitrox courses with Natalie!

Cleaning up & baby stingrays at Halaveli

This week the team at Halaveli were busy doing their part for the ocean, with a clean up event around the lagoon and reef. Looks like the event was quite fun for the participants as some interesting items were recovered.

The lagoon at Halaveli is a haven for juvenile fish to seek shelter and protection from predators that can be lurking in the deeper water. The shallow lagoons of Maldives also act as a nursery of baby sharks and stingrays.

Juvenile flying fish at Halaveli dive center

Well it just goes to show that some of the most amazing things to be found in the ocean are right underneath your own nose!

The TGI team at Halaveli this week were surprised to find a juvenile flying fish, hiding away right underneath the dive center!

Normally seen in deeper water, these incredible creatures can launch themselves out of the water to escape oncoming predators, and can cover distances of over 60m!

Groups and courses on Halaveli

With some excellent weather and great visibility, diving at Halaveli this past week has been incredible. The ‘Citroen’ dive group from Belgium came and stayed with us this week, and had some great dives, and a spectacular sunset on the sandbank. It’s also been a busy week for courses at the dive center, with Timo and Birgit finishing their PADI Scuba Diver Course with Tobias.
